Anderson earns top spot for NHRA playoffs
Duluth native Greg Anderson posted his fifth win
of the season, and 70th overall, as he claimed the Pro Stock title
Monday at the NHRA U.S. Nationals in Clermont, Ind.
Anderson outran top qualifier, teammate and fellow
Northland native Jason Line 6.552-6.538 in the final. With the win,
Anderson locked up the No. 1 spot in the Countdown to the Championship
— the NHRA’s six-race playoff to determine the world
champions. The U.S. Nationals was the final event before the Countdown
“I feel like it’s my first and biggest
win ever,” Anderson said in a news release after his win at
the historic Lucas Oil Raceway. “Every time it happens up
here it’s just special; it’s just magic. … There’s
so much history here. It’s just everything about drag racing.”
The NHRA Full Throttle Countdown to the Championship
begins at the O’Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Nationals on Sept.
15-18 at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C.
In other racing Monday, Antron Brown became the
first NHRA competitor to win the U.S. Nationals in both Top Fuel
and Pro Stock Motorcycle, beating Del Worsham in the Top Fuel final.
Mike Neff topped the Funny Car field and Hector Arana Jr. won the
Pro Stock Motorcycle division.
