Duluth Clydesdales name Denfeld grad as new coach

Aaron Haupert of Duluth, a former St. Mary’s University player and coach, has been named coach of the Duluth Clydesdales of the Superior International Junior Hockey League. He replaces Chris Locker, who coached for one season.

Haupert, 31, played at St. Mary’s in Winona, Minn., for one season (1999-2000) and later spent five years as the men’s junior varsity coach under Don Olson (2000-05). He was also a women’s varsity assistant (2005-10) under Terry Mannor.

The 1999 Duluth Denfeld graduate was a Denfeld assistant (2010-11) under Kevin Smalley and a St. Scholastica assistant (2011-12) under Mark Wick.

Haupert, a veterinary technician student at Duluth Business University, is a USA Hockey Level 3 certified coach.

The Clydesdales finished sixth among seven teams in the Superior International Junior Hockey League with a 20-33-3 regular-season record in 2011-12.
