Thompson, Lepisto earn Kero Scholarship

Duluth Denfeld seniors Alex Thompson and Matt Lepisto were named 2013 co-winners of the Matt Kero Memorial Scholarship.

Nominations are made by Denfeld coaches, and candidates must excel in athletics and as a leader and role model. Thompson was a hockey forward for the Hunters, while Lepisto is a distance runner. Each will receive $1,604. Lepisto will attend the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul this fall and Thompson has yet to make a college choice.

Matt Kero competed as a captain in cross country, track and hockey at Denfeld. He died in his sleep on Aug. 22, 2011, two months after high school graduation, at age 18.
