A local high school jazz band shares space on an upcoming recording with some big names from the Minnesota music scene.

The Denfeld High School Jazz Band performs “Please Please Me” on the CD “Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 5,” which will be released Dec. 3. Proceeds from the album go toward music education in Minnesota.

The compilation includes covers of Beatles songs by acts such as the Grammy Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers, The Suburbs and Zoo Animal. Duluth musician Eric Pollard’s Actual Wolf recorded “Your Mother Should Know” for the CD.

The record-release party is Dec. 8 at First Avenue in Minneapolis and will include performances by Zoo Animal, The Cactus Blossoms and Sunny Night & The Lakers. Vinyl and CD versions of the final edition of the Beatle Project will be for sale.

“Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 5” also will be available at Electric Fetus, Target.com, Amazon and iTunes.

Vega Productions started the project with The Current in 2009. This year, proceeds go toward Instruments in the Cloud, a program that gives students access to instruments.
