Denfeld's Taipale throws perfect game in softball
Duluth Denfeld’s Ashley Taipale was perfect Thursday in the Hunters’ first softball game of a doubleheader vs. Iron Range teams at Wade Field.
Taipale struck out 14 of the 18 batters she faced in a six-inning 10-0 victory over Hibbing. And the junior went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, as did Shelby Johnson.
Denfeld then turned around and routed Virginia 16-0 in five innings. Taipale, who had hit a grand slam and drove in five runs in Wednesday’s 12-1 victory over Grand Rapids, scattered five hits and fanned eight and supported her cause with a 4-for-4 game offensively, including a homer and four runs batted in. Maddy White produced three hits.
