Lawrence Bernard
An all-conference halfback in football, a forward in basketball
and captain of the track team, Lawrence Bernard was an outstanding
all-around athlete.
He graduated with the class of 1924, one that
left a great football legacy at Denfeld. In 1921 the team played
for the region championship. In 1922 it went 5-2-1 and played for
the state championship. In Bernard's senior year, the Hunters had
one of its most outstanding seasons ever. The team went 7-1, outscoring
opponents 275-16.
Bernard was named by coach Walt Hunting to his
“Dream Team” in the mid-1950s.
