Marv Heikkinen
Marv Heikkinen taught social studies at Denfeld from 1964 to 1996
and created some social studies classes that are still taught. He
was a finalist for Terrific Teacher of the Year in 1991 and was
the Greg Irons Award winner in ’92.
Marv coached track and advised the Fellowship
of Christian Athletes, but his fame was established as a football
coach from 1971 to 1983. He coached the Hunters to two northern
Minnesota championship games in ’74 and ’75 and state
tournament berths in ’79 and ’82.
He has traveled extensively in retirement to such
unique places as Ukraine, Iran, India, Egypt and (Kurdish) Iraq.
While his career winning percentage as a football coach is the only
to rival Walt Hunting’s at Denfeld, Marv is admired most for
his intelligence and kindness.
