William R. Baumgartner
Born April 17, 1921 in Duluth
Bill Baumgartner led Denfeld's football team,
as an end, to a 7-0-1 record his senior year on a team that outscored
opponents, 130-20. The defense posted an incredible five shutouts
that season.
Baumgartner went on to become an All-American at the University
of Minnesota and was drafted by pro football's Chicago Cardinals
in the 13th round (113th overall) of the 1943 draft. He played two
games for the Baltimore Colts in 1947.
