High school baseball playoffs in full
swing
By Matt Suoja
The Denfeld Hunters may
have finished their regular season with a 4-13 record, but don’t
take that as a strong reflection of how the team has played.
“We hoped (we would) have a better record,”
said Dan DuPay, Denfeld’s head baseball coach. “However,
the team has played much better this season and lost some very close,
heart-breaking games.”
Some of the leaders of the team were seniors Mike
Lewis, Aaron Hoag, Mike Umbarger and Alex Bushey. Lewis, Umbarger
and Hoag played in the infield while Bushey played in the outfield.
“Bushey and junior Brad Skurich have been
the most surprising as this is their first time playing baseball,”
said DuPay. “They have produced very well and have contributed
as leaders on this team.”
The Hunters season ended this past Tuesday in
the 7AAA North Sub-section quarterfinals against Duluth Central.
They lost by a score of 17-1.
“(All of the seniors) have been in a position
to lead this team at one time or another,” said DuPay. “Each
has responded accordingly to their personalities and character.
All the seniors will be greatly missed as they leave Denfeld to
make their mark on the real world.”
