High school volleyball is under way
By Matt Suoja
With seven returning seniors, the Denfeld Hunters
hope their 6-13 mark last season will be trounced.
Two of the players they lost were Tanya Croger
and Jenny Lowe.
“Both outside hitters were quick to the
ball and team leaders,” said head coach Donna Hanna, in her
third year as head coach.
Among the seven returning seniors are: Chelsey
Ujdur, captain and setter; Samantha Johnson, co-captain and outside
hitter; her twin sister and co-captain Kelsey Johnson, middle hitter;
Mallory Carlson, middle hitter; Anna Lonke, middle hitter; Kelsey
Turcott, outside hitter and Becky Rude, defensive specialist.
“All returning are great players that play
hard and have a lot of fun,” said Hanna. “Their nicknames
are all Lucy.”
The Denfeld team favors hometown competition.
“We are looking forward to playing Central,
East and Marshall teams this year — our cross-town rivals
make for some great volleyball matches,” said Hanna. “Our
team wishes to play our best in conference games and be ready for
playoffs.”
Their next game is at home against Hibbing at
7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4.
