Northern Stars win playoff opener

Gina Dodge and Linnea Chruscielski each scored two goals as the Duluth Northern Stars topped St. Francis-North Branch 8-1 in a Section 7AA high school girls hockey first-round game Thursday night at Heritage Arena.

Laura Bellamy, who earlier in the day was named as one of five finalists for the Let’s Play Hockey Senior Goalie of the Year Award, made 13 saves for Duluth (19-4-3).

The Northern Stars advance to play Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall in a semifinal at 1 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Arena.
