Duluth School Board adopts new high school
boundary
By Sarah Horner
Duluth School Board members voted tonight to set
Sixth Avenue East as the new boundary line between the east and
west middle and high schools.
Students who live west of Sixth Avenue East will
go to the new western middle school and Denfeld High School. Students
living east will attend the new eastern middle school and high school.
The new line, which is in response to the district’s decision
to consolidate from three to two high schools and four to two middle
schools, extends from Sixth Avenue East to Kenwood Avenue to Howard
Gnesen Road to Airport Road. It attempts to provide more balance
in the number of low-income and minority students than an earlier
boundary line considered at 14th Avenue East.
The boundary line will not go into effect until
the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year at the earliest.
