Robert Beaudin (class of 1958) has died at age 72. He served as Duluth's mayor from 1975 to '79.

Laura Bellamy (class of 2009) is balancing a busy student-athlete lifestyle at Harvard University, honing her goaltending skills for the Crimson.

February 16
It's been 40 years since Sgt. Orval Skarman (class of 1965) disappeared in South Vietnam. He is still listed as Missing In Action.

February 19
Denfeld senior Levi Talarico has been checking items off his to-do list now that his five-year career on the varsity hockey team is nearly over.

February 24
Alex Thompson scored three goals and assisted on a fourth and his twin brother, Zach, stopped all 32 shots to lead Denfeld to a Section 7A hockey semifinal win.

February 28
Duluth Marshall defended its Section 7A high school boys hockey title with a 3-2 victory over top-seeded Denfeld at Amsoil Arena.

Northeastern Minnesota Chief Public Defender Fred Friedman (class of 1965) was honored in a ceremony at the Town and Country Club in St. Paul.

Mike Simonson (class of 1975) is a winner of a National Headliner Award for a documentary titled “Forever Ace: The Richard Bong Story.”

After a spring that has seen more snow than sunshine, Denfeld and Hermantown finally squeezed in a softball game at Wade Field. Denfeld won 4-3.

The LSC boys track and field team title came down to the final two events, with Denfeld edging Cloquet 143.5-141 at Blomberg Field.

Denfeld's softball team earned the No. 2 seed in Section 7AAA playoffs.

Denfeld seniors Alex Thompson and Matt Lepisto were named 2013 co-winners of the Matt Kero Memorial Scholarship.

Jan Petersen, known as “Mrs. Pete” to a generation of Denfeld students, will dance with Duluth Mayor Don Ness on the day after her 99th birthday.

Denfeld seniors J.D. Foldesi and Boston Braack will compete in the Minnesota Class AA state track meet.

Tom Maas (class of 1959) is among the newest additions to the UMD Athletic Hall of Fame.

Former Denfeld teacher Jean Endrizzi has been inducted into the Hurley Education Foundation as a distinguished alumna.

Hailey Heisick (class of 2004) is playing 1950s actress Jayne Mansfield in the new movie "Diamonds to Dust."

Jon Donahue (class of 1983) and Kenny Kalligher recorded episode no. 574 of “The Average Guys,” as Donahue continues his battle against cancer.

After 12 years of heavy use, Public Schools Stadium's dilapidated artificial turf was replaced this summer.

Maile’ana Kanewa (class of 2012), a gymnast at Oklahome University, won the Big 12 conference’s individual vault title.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau (class of 1982) has married her longtime partner.

Bill Spehar (class of 1942) was a World War II veteran and longtime community activist in the Gary-New Duluth neighborhood. He died on Aug. 19 at the age 90.

Denfeld's football team should be more stable in 2013, with plenty of returning players and a return to Class AAAA.

The late William Norman (class of 1923) was an established artist whose lithographs, water colors and oils, were exhibited around the country.

Lord Stanley’s Cup made a surprise appearance at Denfeld thanks to Norm Maciver, the assistant general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Ben Halverson rushed for 290 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Denfeld past Hibbing in a Section 7AAAA first-round playoff game.

Denfeld threw everything it had at the defending state girls soccer champion, St. Louis Park High School, but lost 1-0.

The Hermantown Hawks edged Denfeld 29-20 in the Section 7AAAA football semifinal at Corey Veech Memorial Field.

Fred Friedman (class of 1965) will call it quits next spring after more than 27 years as the region’s top public defense attorney.

The Denfeld Jazz Band performs “Please Please Me” on the album Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 5, which will be released Dec. 3.

This year’s Remembrance Dinner at Veterans’ Memorial Hall marked the grand opening of the new Albert J. Amatuzio Research Center.
